Echoes in networks as political activism

Tero Karpi’s post argues how echoes becomes political activism in network culture. A great, less technical, example is how plagiarism has been developed in net-art as an activist strategy. It all started with this piece of software art called Reamweaver which was used by famous plagiarists like http://0100101110101101.org and The Yes Men.

Especially the last ones used networked echoes and plagiarism to generate media events. Here is a late one, where they’d have to intervene quite a lot to keep the echo sustained.

As a bonus, here’s an interface glitch from John Cayley’s What We Will:

Questions for further diagramming?

What does echoes mean?

Is there a new kind of networked media echoes?

How does this relate to cybernetics, networks and interface criticism?
