Hello, I’m Maren Koehler and very much looking forward to this workshop. I am an architect and supposed to be based in Sydney (that’s where we moved to earlier this year). I guess, I am still trying to resist. After moving between Hong Kong, New York, Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Berlin – for years, the move far south was rather unsettling. Currently I am caring for my 18 month old son during the day, working on my own and collaborative projects at night and I have been teaching Architectural Design at the University of Technology Sydney this semester.
The collage, the map and the diagram I am posting are part of the urban research project ‘waste economies’ I am working on with Bettina Vismann. They are different planes of an investigation about (self-) organised labour within the waste/recycling economy and the use of urban public space in Shanghai.
